one time there was an unscheduled fire alarm and i just happened to have my bag on my shoulder when it went off so my teacher made me go back into what, to his knowledge, was a burning building so i could put my bag back

it’s funny how they teach you this at school but when your older they teach you the opposite. I’m a fire warden at work (i have a hat and everything so i must be qualified) and the only thing i take from our quarterly meetings is the guy telling us that if your bag is in arms reach when the alarm goes off, grab it. Mostly because if there is a fire and you cant go back into the building you’re going to need your belongings like your keys and your wallet etc. Don’t bring stuff like umbrellas because they can be hazardous when trying to run out of a building but do take your bag with you.
